Here's a quick look at iR's rig. Nice simple rig, took about 2 nice, relaxed hours at most.
Body/head/feet controls are standard box curves which allow the animator to translate and rotate each body part individually.
Hand controls contain finger/thumb attributes allowing for easy animation.
Eye control is in a "control pad" form, movement is achieved by using a slider interface. Visibility of this control is accessible through the head control.
